Summary:

Kadence Sparrow wasn't born a devil's child—she was turned into one. Now, she's hiding from the truth, and running for her life.
For years, Kade's true nature has lurked behind an illusion, so when her dad gets another job transfer, she knows the drill: no close friends, no boyfriends, and most importantly: don't expose what she is. Ever. Keeping secrets is easy. Lies are second nature. So is the loneliness—and the fear, but when the Shadows attack, and Kade meets Cole Spires, she could expose everything she's trying to hide.
As one of the Celestial Children, Cole lives by an oath: defend the Ward, protect the Primordial race, guard the gateways, and stick to his own. Everything else is a distraction, and besides, he’s lost enough. Cole's job is clear, and no one his age does it better. So, when he meets Kade in a club downtown, he assumes she just wants his attention. Most girls do, but Cole soon realizes ... Kade isn't like most girls.
The children of heaven and hell are living among us, fighting an age-old war. And falling for someone from the opposition is not an option. But a chance encounter between Kade and Cole will blur the rules, as Kade's journey to keep her truth hidden catapults them together and into a web of lies, forcing her to not only face the demon inside her, but to answer the hardest question of all.
Which is thicker—blood or water?

Review:
*The publisher provided this book in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley.*
Kadence has been moving all her life, running away from the threats that try to get her and also hiding her true nature. She wasn't born a devil's child, she was turned into one and she doesn't want to be one.
When her dad gets another job transfer she knows what to do: she can't have friends, boyfriends and she really can't expose her true nature, to anyone! She's used to hiding behind the facade her life has always been but one night that all changes when she sees a shadow, one kind of evil creatures that hunt her,  behind a boy and tackles him in order to get him away from it. What she doesn't know is that that boy, Cole Spires, is a very important Primordial, a Celestial Child whose purpose is to defend the Earth and the Human Race against the dark forces.
Celestial Children and the Devil's Children can't fall for each other, but as Cole and Kade get to know each other those lines start to blur and every day they are getting closer.
Creatures we don't know are living in our world, fighting for us in an endless battle in which Evil and Good try to conquer each other. What have the things that chase Kade have to do with Cole and his job? Who is Kade and what is she capable of? What will happen?
This book is amazing, I loved how the author created a new concept of "heavenly descendants" and "devil's child" and the way she knitted a whole new world around the reality that is believable and just as beautiful as it is scary which amazes me!
The characters are very complex and multi-dimensional, having multiple aspects that you don't yet learn but I'm sure that we will get an even more profound glimpse at these characters character in future books and I am anxiously expecting them.
The love aspect in the book is a central part of the plot but it doesn't overpower the story itself, helping its complexity and giving you more insight to these characters in whose world you're getting into. I also loved the fact that the author included homosexuality in the book and not in minor characters but in relatively important ones. They live in a very conservative environment and that, in my opinion, is a very smart metaphor for what homosexual couples go through in our society, approaching a very sensitive but essential topic.
It's so interesting and new that you'll never want to give it up and you'll probably read it in one sitting since it has many different and awesome aspects to it like action, drama, supernatural and evil people!
A must read for everyone out there who wants a good and short book that will give you all the "feels"!
